A ScHARR Introduction to Evidence Based Practice on the Internet
This informative site provides up to date information on all aspects of Evidence Based Practice. This includes searching, appraisal, implementation and software as well as links to EBM and EBCP journals, databases and organisations. The site also features access to a Virtual Library providing full text EBM documents.

Australasian Cochrane Centre - Melbourne
This portal site provides access to the Australasian Cochrane Centre and its resources, as well as access to the International Cochrane Collaboration home page and the Cochrane Library of systematic reviews.

Centre for Clinical Effectiveness
This useful site offers resources such as EBM learning resources, and consumer health information. It also provides links to other EBM sites, as well as services for staff from the Southern Health Care Network, Melbourne, Australia.

Centre for Evidence Based Physiotherapy
This page provides access to PEDro, the evidence based Physiotherapy Database, as well as information about current evidence based workshops and lectures run by the CEBP and related to the Physiotherapy discipline.

NICS - National Institute for Clinical Studies
NICS is an Australia's national agency for closing the gaps between evidence and practice in health care. It is now part of the National Health and Medical Rseaerch Council of Australia. In addition to providing valuable information about evidence in practice, grading evidence and developing clinical practice guidelines, this site also has free links to the Cochrane Library and other useful links.

Primary Health Care Research & Information Service
This on-line clearing-house provides information related to General Practice activities in the areas of clinical practice, education and research. The site also provides resources to support the above activities as well as access to the NIS library, archives and databases. A comprehensive list of current General Practice and health related websites on the Internet is available from the site.

Joanna Briggs Institute for Evidence Based Nursing and Midwifery
In addition to other services, this site provides free access to Nursing and Midwifery best practice information sheets, clinical practice manual service, systematic review information, systematic review protocols and workshop information.

National Guideline Clearing House
This site is a public resource for evidence based clinical practice guidelines. It is sponsored by the Agency for Health Care Research and Quality in partnership with the American Medical Association and the American Association of Health Plans.

Joint NHMRC/AVCC Statement & Guidelines on Research Practice (May 1977)
This site provides access to the joint NHMRC/AVCC Statement and Guidelines as a guide to institutions developing their own procedures and guidelines. These Guidelines are a recognised comprehensive framework of minimum acceptable standards.

NH&MRC - National Health and Medical Research Council
This link provides access to the NH&MRC Clinical Practice Guidelines - Publication Catalogues 2000.

EMJA Health Advice

A comprehensive compendium of all of the official CDC guidelines and recomendations for the prevention of disease and injury.

National Breast Cancer Centre Clinical Practice Guidelines
As part of the National Breast Cancer Centre, this link provides access to Clinical Practice Guidelines for the Management of early Breast Cancer.

Agree Collaboration

TRIP Database Turning Research Into Practice
Practice an excellent UK database, which accesses to many of the leading Internet publishers of medical information (over 8000 links). Originally designed to capture only material of an evidenced based format, it has more recently been expanded to include research published in peer review journals. Aimed at practitioners in primary care.

CRD - Centre for Reviews & Dissemination Databases
These 3 excellent databases (see below,) produced by the UK NHS Centre for Reviews and Dissemination, can be searched singly or collectively from this one site. DARE Abstracts of quality assessed systematic reviews
NHSEED Economic evaluations of health care interventions
HTA Publications and projects by INAHTA and other HTA organisations

Cochrane Review Abstracts
Searches & lists the abstracts of all published Cochrane Reviews.

Herb Med
A database produced by the US Alternative Medicine Foundation Inc. which provides information about the evidence associated with many of the common herbal therapies. This is a good site for consumers and family/general physicians.


US National Library of Medicine- Data Bases

PubMed
An excellent data base with many features. The Clinical Queries feature is particularly useful for doing quick high yield useful searches of the entire Medline database. It has excellent in-built filters (such as, prognosis, diagnosis, sensitivity and specificity) and also has a feature that allows it to retrieve related articles.

Bioethics
The National Library of Medicine (NLM) provides access to the published literature on the ethical, legal and public policy issues surrounding health care and biomedical research. This information is provided in conjunction with the Kennedy Institute of Ethics located at Georgetown University, Washington, DC.

Cancer
The National Library of Medicine provides access to cancer information in its MEDLINE®/PubMed® database. The National Cancer Institute (NCI) has many additional sources of information.

HIV/Aids
The National Library of Medicine (NLM) provides access to the published literature on acquired immunodeficiency syndrome (AIDS) and human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) via several resources.

Population/family planning
The National Library of Medicine (NLM) provides access to population information via several resources. Population information includes worldwide coverage of population, family planning, and related health issues, including family planning technology and programs, fertility, and population law and policy. The Johns Hopkins University Center for Communication Programs (JHU/CCP) Population Information Program (PIP) also provides access to population information via their POPLINE® database.

Clinical Alerts & Advisories
NLM began offering clinical alert notices online in January 1991. Clinical alerts are provided to expedite the release of findings from the NIH-funded clinical trials where such release could significantly affect morbidity and mortality.

Complementary and Alternative Medicine
NCCAM and the National Library of Medicine (NLM) have partnered to create CAM on PubMed, a subset of NLM's PubMed. PubMed provides access to citations from the MEDLINE database and additional life science journals. It also includes links to many full-text articles at journal Web sites and other related Web resources.

American College of Physicians Journal Club
This online Journal is published bi-monthly and copyrighted by the American College of Physicians-American Society of Internal Medicine (ACP-ASIM). It contains article reviews and commentaries drawn from more than 100 journals. Articles featured are considered to warrant physicians attention in order to keep pace with advances in treatment, prevention, diagnosis, cause, prognosis or economics.
